Some of the writing was a bit cheesy, but I attribute that to it just being a product of when it was written. The author used a lot of “!” punctuation which seemed really silly and made some intense moments seem trivial when they could have been portrayed more seriously. Overall, I find the entire story to be very intriguing, especially with the debate on whether or not the Lutz family lied about it all after the fact. Either way, it made for a good scary story :)

For a haunted house book, this is pretty dull.

Reading this at night with eerie piano recitals playing in the background heightened the awareness of my senses. That freaking bothered me a little but all I know, Jay Anson, is that your book put me in a paralyzing book slump.

If it wasn't a monthly required reading for our smol book club, I would have easily dropped the book after the first three pages. This entire Amityville shite felt tedious, irksome, and

Finally read this spooky classic and it’s definitely worthwhile albeit unsettling, especially if the story is true as the writer and subjects claim it is. Makes me glad I don’t live in a haunted house

the true horror here is the parents slapping the kids and dog constantly

2 stars, but not in a bad way

Should go without saying that this "true account" is an big exaggeration of whatever may have actually happened..but pretending like it's true is half the fun! Very enjoyably creepy, couldn't read it alone at night!

Boring. Repetitive and boring. There were parts that were genuinely weird and creepy. But the overall I was bored out of my mind.

I can understand why this is a horror classic. It really put me on edge and forced me to consider things I had never given much thought. I recommend the audiobook.
