It is easy to think of Riordan as king of middle grade reads, and his premier novel into the Percy Jackson series exemplifies just that. Riordan manages to capture the essence of an 11 year old boy, all while building in Greek myths in a delightful and contemporary way.

Upon a second re-reading, I began to really appreciate the importance of this installment in the series. It is not the most exciting of the series, but it sets the stage for everything that happens in the third act.

As far as finales go, this one is a top notch ending. It was emotional, exciting and meaningful in so many ways. I love re-reading this series, just for this installment.

Most beginning installments are sometimes slow to start, but this felt like the perfect introduction into an engaging series about teenage mutant/super hero/ethically upstanding characters.

An amusing audiobook to enjoy during a long commute. Definitely flips the zombie trope a bit.

A nice follow-up to the first volume, with some surprise guests that made me want to read their comic!

A really cool call-back to earlier Marvel characters, and a fun little side story!
