Flawless Girls by Anna-Marie McLemore

Go to review page

Flawless Girls is engaging, disturbing, and in the end satisfying read about what it means to be a girl. I really enjoyed the author's note. You could tell how much care was put into this book! And i really enjoyed the intersex representation of our main character. I was really interested in the relationship between the sisters and the ties between the other characters. The best way I can explain this book is that it's kinda like a fever dream, it's very heavy handed with imagery and related metaphors, it could have been a little less but it was still enjoyable! I'm looking forward to reading more books by Anna-Marie McLemore!

Freeset was a fantastic conclusion to an exciting and thought provoking series! All series must come to an end but I'm sad to see this one end, but freeset gave us a great ending! The world building is fascinating and it's been fun learning about the Four Cities! It has been exciting to get to know each of the characters, even the new ones! It's a fast moving story with multiple perspectives that works really well for this story! I can't wait to see what's next for Sarina Dahlan!

Songs of the Sage series is turning into a great dystopian, science fiction thriller! I was looking forward to getting to know Lilith! She is a great main character and there is so much more to her than you can imagine! There was a few times that I thought I had everything figured out and then something would happen and I would have to start all over again! I really enjoyed this one and I'm looking forward to reading more from this series!
Beastly Beauty by Jennifer Donnelly

Beastly Beauty was an interesting story! It is a retelling of Beauty and the Beast with switched rolls which I thought was interesting! It was really fascinating to learn about Arabella and her ladies in waiting! Plus there's a nice chemistry between Beau and Arabella, the main characters it's filled with witty banter with opposites attract and enemies to lovers mixed in it makes for a fun read! So I love retelling! It's always interesting and fun to read the twists the author does and to see how they make the story their own! Overall it was a fun and engaging story!

The Song of Sourwood Mountain was a slow start but once it got going it turned into a good read! I enjoyed getting to know the characters and I really enjoyed seeing Mira’s relationship develop and seeing her change as well. I liked the underlying message that just because something doesn't happen the way we thought it would, it doesn't mean opportunities are lost to us! Overall it was a lovely story that anyone who enjoys a good inspirational historical fiction romance will enjoy!
Don't by Gabriella Batel

Don't is a very interesting read! There were plenty of times I was at the edge of my set and had a hard time putting it down! The book has an eerie feel and with the writing being so descriptive you can feel the emotions of the characters and see and hear every scene! It has some interesting and entertaining twists and turns. You do have to let go of reality a little but it was a great read!

4.0

The Lamplighter is a beautifully written gothic historical fiction horror story that will have you guessing till the very last page! It's not a fast paced story but its a chilling story about a young girl wanting to be heard and protect what she loves most! The characters are flawed and very life-like! The descriptions of the setting are fantastic and it makes it easy to see and feel everything that's going on! Overall it's a great story with a surprising ending!
