Snatched: A Novella is Karin Slaughter's latest short story, focusing on Georgia Bureau of Investigations agent Will Trent - a character I have come to like and admire as someone who persevered despite his limitation, in Tent's case, being a functional illiterate.

In this short story, Tent is determined to save a little girl from being abducted in a large and busy airport. Ms. Slaughter's story was fast-paced and drew me in from the moment Will first heard the little girl's voice to the very end. I was drawn into the mystery of what happened to this child and how Will Trent worked to piece everything together. This was not your typical 'whodunnit' thriller, but more of a 'howdunnit', leaving you flipping pages - or in the case of this being available only for ebooks, swiping pages - to figure out how the abduction happened and how Trent was going to solve the case.

In Tess Gerritsen’s short story, John Doe, Maura Isles finds herself drawn to a wealthy, handsome man and engages in some harmless flirting…at least she thought it was harmless… What I enjoyed most about this latest short story was how Ms. Gerritsen really zeroed in on Maura and put her in a situation I was honestly surprised to see her in…and surprised in a good way. Rarely do we get to see Maura like she was when she met this mystery man, the way she flirted with him…she wasn’t the same cautious “Queen of the Dead” we are used to experiencing and I think that is why it worked so well in this snippet of a story.

Tess Gerritsen took what could have been a gripping full length novel and weaved together a story that had you guessing whodunit right to the very end. You get it all: mystery, thrills, suspense and drama all wrapped up in just a few chapters and I walked away feeling just as satisfied as if it had been a full novel. Ms. Gerritsen has this way of creating and crafting her characters and stories that pulls you in from the first page and doesn’t let you go until the very end, and even then it leaves you wanting…craving…more.
