It was cute, but I don’t think this was for me. Still had fun tho!

I have mixed feelings about this book.

On the one hand, I find the premise intriguing, but there's several things that have knocked stars off for me.

You know like how some people like to make poetic lines, of the most mundane? This author utilized this tactic till it bordered on being pompous and annoying for me. I'm not sure if I was glad or confused, however, when all of that basically dropped after the third act.

Maybe it's to symbolize the rose colored glasses coming off, or that love is dead. Who knows.

Oh, and speaking of poetics, be prepared for a lot of food innuendos.

Okay moving onto to characters. Meh, they were alright.

All I have to say is that having sexual tension with your boss and his daughter is a messy, messy game to play.

And now for the end.

Well, it ended.

It was clear to me that the author seemed to have lost some steam towards the end, especially after the main character's second breakup. And then she had a daughter. And then she grew old.

And then she died.

The end.

Talk about the lack of dramatics.

I can see this book being a favorite for a few folks who enjoy this author's writing style. Especially Sally Ronney fans, as Zhang has also sworn off quotation marks.

Overall, it was an interesting read, but not my cup of tea.
