The Secret Lives of Country Gentlemen by KJ Charles

Go to review page

It has been an age since I read a KJ Charles story, and I really enjoyed diving into the lives of Romney March.

A classic opposites attract - one worked for a solicitor, one breaks the law on the regular. One has no relationship with family, one lives and would die for family.

One is a rogue, one is a gentleman.

And yet they fit, and I enjoyed as they found their way even with all the outside pressures on their relationship.

I like that KJ Charles writes to the time period, but does not get bogged down in flowery prose. I could imagine myself in the tavern, listening to them all chat.

I am looking forward to more in the Doomsday series.

Who would have thought all those years ago that 56 books in, I would have been loving Dallas and Roarke as much today as I did then?

I will admit I would have bet against me still reading them.

But here we are, and JD Robb has done it again.

I don't want to give anything away, as I believe every In Death book is a story that you just need to immerse yourself in and enjoy.

i often have an inkling of whodunnit and just need to be there as the characters come to the same conclusion, there were a lot of red herrings and twists this time.

I know this is vague, but seriously dig in and enjoy it. It's mag.

Sweet read with a bit of a Sandra/Keanu Lake House vibe to it.

I will say though, that you really do need to have read the prequel novella Beginning Of The End first, as End Of Story throws you right into thing. I will admit that I went back and checked that I didn't start half way through a chapter, I scratched my head and was a bit confuzzled at first.

I liked the story, I like Lars and Susie (gah, I had to go back and check her name, I completely forgot it, stupid bookzheimers!) - thought the mystery papers in the wall thing I could have done without, but I guess we had to have the fate thing brought in somehow.

Now, I love everything I have read by Kylie Scott, but to me, this one kind of dragged. They fought things so hard for so long, I was just "get on with it already!" For me, there could have been less of the will they/won't they, but that's just me.

Nicola Haken has done it again with A Different Kind Of Love.

I adored every word as I was reading, and thought about it for a couple of days after I finished it.

William and Laurie will have you thinking, will have you wanting to scream at them not to do it, then scream at them "Oh my god, why didn't you?"

It is a beautiful story of becoming who you truly should be, even though you know it is going to hurt those you love.

William will worm his way into your heart and soul. Even writing this, over a week after I finished reading it, my heart hurts for him. He is such an amazing, loving man.

An emotional rollercoaster of a story, you will feel like you have been through the wringer by the time it ends, but it will be worth every second of it.

I have really been enjoying the Sunrise Cove, and I do enjoy Jill Shalvis books in general.

I did like The Backup Plan, but it was not my favourite in the series to date. Don't get me wrong, it is enjoyable, but to me, it just dragged a little bit.

I got Knox and Lauren right away, but Alice's abrasiveness to it all just dragged so long, I even said out loud "just leave then!"

I did like how they all came to their crossroads and dealt with it well, and I liked where everyone ended up, but it sure did take a while to get there.

But this is just me and I am sure they won't bother anyone else.

I do look forward to more of this town in the future.

Thank you Hachette Australia for my review copy

I really enjoy Sophie Gonzales' stories, and this was no exception

The second chance/revenge/reality tv show setting of this story had me intrigued - though I did find the first half of the book a bit slow. We did learn quite a lot about the characters in that time, and the second half really sped things up and I found myself interested in where things would end up, particularly with Maya and Skye.

Jordy is so much the douchey guys that we see on these kinds of reality shows, all nice smiles until he thinks the cameras are turned off. He needs to attend Gaslighters Anonymous, and also get his narcissism in check.

The age of the characters just felt a bit off for this story though. I know they are all around 18-20 years old, but this just felt too old a story for those so young - he was a teenage boyfriend of yours, not the be all and end all, love of your life guy. Maybe if the characters had say 5 more years on them it would have felt more natural.

Enjoyable characters and storyline, I look forward to what Ms Gonzales brings us next.

I liked the story.

I liked a different perspective on Lydia.

I liked the performance

BUT

This was one of those over-produced audios, where we have music and chatter in the back ground, between chapters eyc.

I can handle the snoring, burping and farting, but what in all that is unholy, no no no to the slurpy kissing noises!
