it took me a longer time than usual to get through this but there were just too many lines that made my jaw drop to give it anything less than 4 stars. davis continues to understand human nature in ways i rarely see portrayed anywhere else. rogni's stories were a highlight, but so was most of the last part of the book.

had this shipped internationally to get my hands on it and i was not disappointed. absolutely adore plastiboo's art, having a "game" told through a guide built around it makes it that much better.

the ideas in this were fantastic, and so was the casual diversity. so nice to read about bipoc, queer, disabled characters just existing and being themselves. the one downside is i genuinely wished this was fleshed out more. it felt like it could have been at least twice as long and gone deeper into a bunch of the offshoots. i found myself wanting a lot more!

this book was not good lol. dybek uses women as props to progress the male leads' stories. none of the ladies have depth, they're all just there to cause drama and have sex with the protags. also random racism? like race was only mentioned for stereotypes & jokes. giving it one star for the few stories i liked.

definitely feel like i enjoy where evenson's writing is at now in the 2010s/2020s more than older work, but it was fun nonetheless.

stories i liked:
  • mudder tongue
  • an accounting
  • wander
  • alfons kuylers
  • fugue state
