If you're a fan of My Next Life as a Villainess's Katarina you'll probably enjoy Tearmoon Empire's Mia. Chapters trend towards the shorter side so reading through this was a breeze.

This was a good one. All three viewpoints were compellingly written. After my past complaints about leaving one interesting character for another less interesting one, I feel like Weyward struck the balance I'm always looking for in shifting POV books. Nice spin on the witch mythos, too.

Pros:
- Good character design.
- Nice, clean art.
- Strong humor focus.
Cons:
- Fast pace makes for sometime confusing timeline. Not helped by the fact that numbers signifying chapter changes are often hard to spot. Learning this manga started life on Twitter does go a way towards explain some things, though.
Things that might give pause:
- Main romance is between an 18 year old and a 28 year old which would have been considered illegal in Japan at the original time of publication in 2019. At one point, the younger character even uses the age of majority law as a playful threat towards the older character.
- A couple jokes rely in the humor of one character punching/slapping/kicking another which may read as abusive to some readers.

Eh, I've read better from Ally Carter. Which is a shame because I think her first Adult novel should be at least on par with her YA fare even if it's not better.
A book with this premise lives and dies on romance but this was a dud for me. I just couldn't buy Love from this couple. Infatuation? Attraction? Yes. But world shattering, quit my job, my life would suck without you Love? Sorry, not feeling it.
By the end of the book I wasn't reading for enjoyment so much as just wanting to know the answers to FMC's amnesia. Which at least is a testament to Carter's talent as a writer that I didn't just skim through and jump to the end.

The Waiting Sky by Lara Zielin

There's nothing about The Waiting Sky that sticks out as wrong to me. Zielin writes Jane in a strong narrative voice and her character develops in a way that feels natural. Jane's frustrations are understandable and even when she dips into unlikable territory she still manages to hold my sympathy.
I think where my issues lie is in the novel's length. Waiting Sky stands on the shorter side and as a result the resolution to me feels rushed. Length also affected my feelings toward the romance which from my perspective moved too quickly even while I found it charming.
All this aside, The Waiting Sky was enjoyable and there's nothing here that would stop me from picking up another book my Lara Zielen.
