In the movie, the couple were messy and passionate and knew how to get under each other’s skin. Meena and Nikhil are sweet but ultimately came across as two wet blankets who can’t communicate with each other. 🤷🏼♀️

The ACOTAR references? Yuck. I get that because of her job, the pop culture references were unavoidable and most didn’t bother me, but I’ll never get over the ACOTAR stuff.
I love AJ’s books because they blend humor and a sweet romance with heavy, emotional themes. While I appreciate the very realistic portrayal of being a full time caregiver for a family member, to me, the romance got lost in the plot. I was missing balance between the two story lines.
I know AJ’s books are traditionally closed door to low spice and typically, I never miss it in her books. The chemistry and the yearning are usually so good, you don’t even need it but I think this book could’ve used a little. I loved their banter but something just felt lacking. They’re apart for months at a time and absolutely feral for each other but we get nothing. I just felt like a little something would’ve made their romance a little more believable. It just felt like all telling and no showing (and I don’t just mean spice lol)
All and all, I still love AJ and will continue reading her books, this was just the first miss for me.
