truly incredible. i was absorbed the whole time. two things:
1. loved the realization that this is the origin of breaking bad’s stroke patient character using a the bell to communicate because he has lost the ability to speak
2. surprise lesbians!

i struggled with o’farrell’s prose, which embodies this try-hard, florid style affecting grandiosity. she seems to say: why use one sentence, or one clause to make your point when you can spend 6 beating the point to death?

agnes is underwritten. she’s defined only by her clairvoyance and witch powers, but i don’t really know anything else about what animates her except in relation to the men and children in her life. i’m missing what makes this appeal to feminists.
