This book was a lot darker than I expected. I originally read it because I needed a light book after reading [b: The Joys of Motherhood|210722|The Joys of Motherhood|Buchi Emecheta|https://d.gr-assets.com/books/1431801037s/210722.jpg|203957], but quickly found out that the story between Kerstin Gier's latest trilogy is definitely NOT a feel good YA book.
The story itself revolves around a group of male friends who have unleashed a demon on Halloween with the usual bad results. Unfortunately, they lost their "virgin sacrifice" and need to replace her with a new member to re-up their blood circle and get the demon back on this side of the void. That's where the main character, Liv, comes in. As usual, Kerstin Gier has written a feisty and comical lead for her story and Liv continuously goes toe-to-toe with her male co-characters in terms of witty comebacks and innovative plans. While the book does go a bit overboard with eligible love interest for me, I thoroughly enjoyed it.
For me, this book was a nice light read with the added benefit of plot twist that were scary as all heck. However, keep in mind I'm not a person who reads/watches/indulges in horror or ghost stories of any kind so if you do then this book will probably be the equivalent of you watching an episode of Barney. Nevertheless, the book was a good start to a trilogy.
If you enjoyed this book, check out the [b: The Nightmare Affair|12411635|The Nightmare Affair (The Arkwell Academy, #1)|Mindee Arnett|https://d.gr-assets.com/books/1358468998s/12411635.jpg|17393303] or Kerstin Gier's other Precious Stones series.

This book was tedious at time and after reading it my overall reaction was simply "meh"....I have no real feelings for it. However, if I ever did the Summer Reading Tag that Ariel Bissett created on BookTube, this is the classic I would chuck at my teacher's feet. Forster could've kept this book to himself and I wouldn't have shed one soluble tear. I don't recommend the book for pleasure, but if you want to feel accomplished after you reach page 359 I say read on. (-.-)/
