This book was a DNF for me. I really wanted to love it being that I simply adored the Princess Diaries series and all things "happily ever after" yet, there was too much wrong with Chases's novel for me to become fully invested in seeing it through to the end.
For starters, the insta-love was beyond frustrating. I could accept that the Prince and Samantha would come to love each other eventually however, their love at first sight/shared meal clipped the suspense of the plot and had me uninterested before I even got my footing into the story. Next, the introduction of Samantha to her royal standing was undercooked. If Chase wanted to make Samantha aware of her royal standing, she could have done it gradually instead of blurting it out within the first 20 pages. She even could have had Samantha venture to Lilria and been told there. Instead she sprung it on her in middle ofa hotel in a vastly cliched setting. After Samantha found out she was royal, there wasn't much more to hold my attention. Finally, the randomness of the "save the bird" campaign that Samantha was saddled with threw me. I could understand saving a lot of animals, but the whole bird thing seemed random and contrived to me.
I really wish that this book had been written in a different way and that I could have loved it more however, I feel that I gave it a fair enough chance. Maybe one day ill be in the mood to try again however, I'm going to have to throw in the towel now.
