The food is the star in this book. The overall atmosphere was very similar to "Before the Coffee Gets Cold" in that each chapter is closer to a short story than a book. Overall, a very cozy book that made me want whatever they're having
This definitely an intensely slow book for me. I consistently had to stop with how dense it was and I wasn't captured until the last 25% of the book. But the story concept was interesting and while I likely wont read the next two books, I can understand why others might like it. It's just not for me.
From the jump, I knew that this was going to be rough to get through because so much of Lydia's thoughts mirrored my own as a teenager. The writing was gorgeous and moving and so easy to relate to. I loved how much I got to see from every character's perspective and how flawed they all are.
While I'm impressed at the large cast, I just found all these characters to be unlikeable and annoying. There was also such an excessive use of slurs, misogyny, bigotry, etc. There weren't enough people to ground us in reality because almost everyone was obscenely rich.
