This is such a disappointment. The writing suffers from severe tell and never show and it comes at a detriment to the story.

I believe that this book was really good, truly. However, I think we could have taken out Ansel’s chapters and bring even more focus onto the women as I feel they weren’t given a chance to speak as Ansel would slip in with his weird stuff about his theory that I really don’t care about as I don’t care for that man and never will.
I’m struggling to know how to rate this, so I’ll come back later but or right now I’m on the fence about giving it anything higher than a three as the ending felt off especially with one of the women spoken about almost forgiving him, and we don’t get to see why.
(As I’m writing I’ll probably give it that three anyway.)
Edit: dropping my rating to two stars, the more I think and talk about this book the more I dislike it.

Not interested, buuuuut its the Harry Potter references. I can't read a book with Harry Potter mentioned due to my disliking of that author xx

Wow. Holy shit.
I don't read thrillers, they're not my cup of tea. But from the two I've read, both by Holly Jackson, it's safe to say nothing can top this one.
I loved how unhinged the MC was, the dynamics of the family and the plot itself was so so so good I couldn't put this down! Highly recommend this one for those who don't gravitate towards the genre as this one makes me want to read more.

This is a very well written book, but I did not understand anything that was going on and didn't understand the world building either. I definitely had very high expectations after the first couple of chapters, but I ended up not liking this that much.
Won't be reading the sequel or finishing the series in general as I genuinely don't care about anyone in this book and again, got confused. However, I did enjoy the trans rep as it isn't something you see often.
