i usually do my reviews right after i finish reading a book to get my thoughts out, but i fully had to read a few reddit posts before even getting my thoughts together because i was so fucking confused. it started off slow and was hard to get into but i was so intrigued and the premise sounded good as well. It got really good when things started getting pretty intense and then it kinda flopped again towards the end. i love twisted media like this but i hate when it tries so hard to be an analogy to the point where you are confused but not in a good way. you're just sitting there like "what the hell am i watching" or "what am i reading right now".

i know i sound like i hate this book, but i really don't. it was right up my alley and the writing was so good but i had to think way too hard to read this book. when I read books like these, i want to close the page and be like "holy shit what the hell" and go into deep dives on reddit about it. I did go on reddit, but for a different reason.

I kind of want to re read this? but i also don't. its rare for me to rr so i feel like its not worth wasting my time over but i also know everything about the book now which will allow me to read it with a better understanding and to hopefully rate it higher. im convinced this is a book you have to read twice to be amazed (which should't be the case but ill allow it for this one, we'll see). i just really liked the unreliable narration and can find a deeper appreciation for it by reading it again... but do i really want to?

that was a fun little entry, idk why i sounded very angry in this one but im just so confused on what i feel towards this

also, this was super gay, right?

edit: i take back what i said, if these reddit theories are real then this book was amazing and complex

"his only crime has been to admire you" - one of the many quotes I tabbed but I honestly cannot write anymore without spoiling even though I want to

I honestly do not know where to begin with this book. its not something I ever thought I would enjoy but omfg, it was so easy to get so sucked into the world, the story, the characters, the writing, basically everything.

I literally could not put this book down. like what did he put in this book I swear it was laced with drugs or something.

at one point I forgot I was reading and was so into it that I almost screamed when my mom knocked on my door lol like thats the best feeling ever and im so glad this book gave that to me.

anyways, im so excited to continue this series, I cant even explain how I feel right now like girlie is in shock

i had to read this for my coming-of-age class. It’s a 3 star rating because i really liked the writing style and the world building but at the same time, i couldn’t get fully into it. maybe because it was for school lol but also probably because it focused on religion a lot and personally, i don’t loveee reading about it so much. Overall though, the characters and found family were great, I would like to know what happens to them but im not that invested in the book to continue.

what i love about these books is how they pull you in so easily. the whole time, i was questioning wtf was going on and that made me always want to be reading it to know what was happening next. although, i didn’t like it as much as the first because i didn’t get the satisfaction at the end of understanding what was going on. i’m still so fvcking confused it’s actually funny

so i need to read the next book asap to get my answers because this series has messed with my brain

i’m having so so much fun reading these

this felt sooo long and its the shortest book in the series. it wasnt bad at all, I did read the last 150 or so pages in one go but it took me soo long cause not much was happening. i understand why though because this is setting up for the next book and also explaining the previous book so i really liked that. cant wait to continue and finish this series

this is definitely the longest book i’ve ever read and one of the best. i’m not even gonna lie, the amount of times i wanted to throw this book across the room cause i felt like i would never finish this was very high for a book i loved very much (i’ve been in a slump and was trying to force myself to read lol)

the character dynamics throughout the whole series was just so well done, and it’s so nice to read about characters who love stories and novels just as much as you do

it felt like i was saying goodbye to a family member when i turned to the last page, or several family members as i felt i knew each character personally

the constant repetition of “welcome to the cemetery of forgotten books” got me every time

also??! julian carax and julian sempere being the authors was such a nice touch, i just can’t believe i read a 3000 page story

Im shocked at how much I enjoyed this! I randomly decided to pick it up and read it in one sitting because it was too good to put down. this novel was actually super sad and it was a little relatable at times but its just nice to read stuff like this sometimes and know you're not alone. also didn't know i was reading a memoir till halfway through because i figured and went to check the genres. so nicely done and its such a fun way of sharing an experience of your life for others to read and relate to.

i definitely think if anyone is thinking about reading this, to check the tw first :)
