i know this is a depressed woman staple but i did not enjoy this as much as I thought I would. i didnt love it, nor did i hate it. honestly, it was just a little boring in my opinion. although i did love the concept & do wish i could sleep for a whole year and come out a better person lol, the execution fell a little flat for me.

im aware that the mc was created to be an absolute horrible person and she delivered

3-3.5 (not really sure what to rate this)

wow, what a ride. i started this book after hearing my teacher summarize a little what this book is about and i was like omg i need to read that. i went home remembering I had a king book in my basement and lucky me, it was the exact one i wanted (kinda creepy

this was exactly what I was looking for and I wasn't disappointed! the only thing I have to say is I did wish more crazy shit happened because in this world, this cult was supposedly "so famous" and I was hoping it would be a little more insane.

I guess its focus was more on Evie's coming of age which is why they didn't make too many crazy things happen to not take your full attention away from her story. And honestly, I just felt so extremely sad for the main character throughout the whole book.

brb gonna recommend this to my coming of age fiction teacher lol

i read this on the train to and back and it will always remind me of this little trip i went on. what a lovely book! it was such a great, easy read. not life changing but definitely fun and perfect for someone who loves music and the 70s.

really enjoyed the coming-of-age aspect in this and the found family - super super adorable

first of all, i love that this took place in my city, I think its the first book I read that is set in Montreal and it was super fun. this book was so good, I was never bored

the plot was so well done, i love that this was set in the 19th century (+ the fact that there were sapphics

what a lovely story. i originally added this to my tbr because after finishing tshoeh, i was craving another book just like it & heard this was pretty similar. it literally was very similar but i’d say more in terms of writing and the lifestyle of the characters. i felt like i was reading a tjr novel. there was even a character named celia and she mentioned a lady named evelyn at one point in the story. tshoeh is very dear to me so nothing that is similar could ever replace it but this was nice and almost made me feel like i was reading it again or reading a story set in the same universe of evelyn and celia :’)

i would recommend this to anyone who is looking for a similar book to the seven husbands (although it does still stand out as it’s own story)

lol i just keep thinking about how angela asked one question and received a 500 page novel instead of one small paragraph
