I had such a good time with this book. It reminded me of Mr and Mrs Smith before the marriage mixed with Dexter. The banter was enjoyable, the moments that were supposed to be hilarious took me OUT I was cracking up and the writing kept my attention. The way he fell for her immediately that it basically clouded his work around her. The writing flowed so well it was kinda like watching a movie. THIS is a good book to have made to film or a tv series. Sloan is funny af the scene with the old lady (iykyk) took me out I was cracking up! If you’re looking for a nice in between read you’ll enjoy it. Also the things related to the trigger warnings weren’t as bad as I thought they’d be.

3.75 That was very interesting. It kept my attention that’s for sure because these mofos were crazy. I didn’t realize it was a series I might have to check out the others. I took half a star because some details kept being repeated and didn’t need to be it bothered me. Took another cause the FMC was really not the strongest or the brightest.

Before I got to page 361:

This was a RIDE! The mystery, the plot twists, the interview style convos. When I thought I’d knew what was coming I was wrong! The smallest details are so important! It starts slow but really holds your attention. Two women who share the same birthday living different lives, what happens when their lives intertwine. I can not rave about this book enough!

Loved this story. I truly can’t wait for the next book on Hendrix!
My only qualm is the way Kennedy writes kids is just weird to me. They are way more mature in moments and immature in moments you’d think they’d be understanding. It’s a little inconsistent. However the kids now vs my upbringing are different.

It was slow for me in the beginning. A lot of world building. I just felt like I was skimming through in the first hundred something pages but once I got to page 250+ it picked up. Because I want to know what happens I’ll read the next book.

The audible made this book 10x better. The voice actors really sold this book. The writing style isn’t my favorite but I want to at least finish it. A couple spooky parts but nothing too crazy.

The characters weren’t likable, the plot jumped like crazy and the story got muddled. I tried to give it the benefit of the doubt and I shouldn’t have done that. I would give it one star because it ended.

I have a lot of thoughts. Miss Lauren Roberts girl, you have a banger on your hands. Putting this book down was hard, but I did it to protect my peace. I got to a certain page before all hell broke loose, and I could’ve stopped there to protect my peace. But my peace is no longer protected. I haven’t been more interested in a series since twilight. I cried, I laughed, I gasped and I cussed people out. as someone who has never read the hunger game series or seen divergent, or any of those fantasy /survival movies/books I feel I followed it pretty well. I only had one complaint, and that was that it was hard to understand between the ordinaries, the elites and the different powers that people had. There are some powers that I’m still questioning because I don’t think I remember passing them as I read but I’m not Trippin. I pre-ordered the next book before I read this book and I’m so glad that past Ember did that.

SPOILER:

Now these dudes were cackling and kiking about their dad and then when their dad gets off’d, they get upset we need to talk. Y’all didn’t even fuck with the king/your dad, for real but now that my girl off him you’re mad??? DONT PISS ME OFF. When Kai says in the SNEAK PEEK saying that he still doesn’t have the courage to take her out in that moment, I laughed. I’ll be seated to read that struggle.
