So thankful Cicely Tyson was able to complete this before she became an ancestor. Her life was phenomenal. I enjoyed hearing about her early life and her family dynamics. The parts where she talked about Miles Davis and his addictions was heartbreaking. I'd pay money to have footage of her and Miles fighting and her pulling his weave out lol. I'm so happy she got to let everyone still here know how much she loved them.

I listened to this so it was hard to keep up with each member of The Blackbirds at first but once I had it all together it got really good. My heart went out to all of them, especially Destiny. That can't be easy to have to pretend to be someone else due to something that wasn't your fault as a child. My least favorite Blackbird was Indigo. She got on my nerves! Like girl please come up off your high horse and embrace being bi. Erica's story was heartbreaking but I'm glad she found love...even though dude is old enough to be her dad and is her best friends dad. Eric Jerome Dickey writing about characters having cancer when he was probably battling it tore me up. This makes me want to go back and read the books about each individual woman. I read Chasing Destiny years ago and need to revisit it. Some of the dialogue I was side eying cause someone should have cussed Indigo out for some of the stuff she was saying but I loved The Blackbirds relationship.

If you were a fan of In Living Color then this is the book for you! I listened to this on audiobook and it was over 12 hours and I have to say I was entertained every second. This talks about Keenan Wayans and his humble beginnings and how he created a power house of a comedy show in the early days of Fox. There is some tea spilled but if you read Tommy Davidson's book you'll already know the drama with a lot of people thinking Keenan favored his siblings over everyone else. I mean...duh? Of course he put his siblings on. This also talks about the writers of ILC, the Fly Girls, when ILC ended and that drama. They also go into the career of Jim Carey who became a household name after being on ILC. This was really good and well written and this narrator on the audiobook had a very soothing voice. I'll end this by saying GIVE US THE HOMEY THE CLOWN MOVIE!

I'm never reading another Quan Millz book again. Chile I thought this was going to be funny for the most part but I almost cried at a few parts and it tore my nerves SLAM UP!

I was being nosey to see if I could gauge what happens at the end of the series and yep I'm not reading anymore cause someone dies and I just can't..book full of trauma.

All I can say is WOW. This book had me calling on the Lord and clutching my imaginary pearls from beginning to end. This definitely made me think about the whole R Kelly scandal and how his nasty a did those babies. I was happy that the author put resources at the end for young people who may find themselves in the same situation as Enchanted. The ending felt a bit rushed to me but a really good listen.

This is a book I'm going to have to go and buy so I can revisit it time and time again. Michelle Obama, our beautiful and intelligent first Black FLOTUS...oh how I miss her and Barack.

I love that she went into great detail about her childhood. Her parents are/were amazing. It was fun to envision a young Michelle deep in her studies and seeing her as a regular young adult. I also loved hearing her talk about when her and Barack first met.

My favorite part of the book is of course when Barack wins the presidency and they move into the White House. This was such a rare and unique look. I never thought I'd live to see a Black President and First Lady and still think about that time with pride. Michelle did an amazing job making sure Malia and Sasha didn't get too spoiled and had somewhat normal childhoods. I started feeling anxiety hearing her talk about all the crazies who threatened them and someone shooting into the White House.

I'm glad she spoke of that orange devil that's in the White House now. He DID put the Obama's lives in jeopardy with that stupid ass birther conspiracy and I'll never forgive the people who voted for that imbecile. We went from sugar to sh*t and if ya'll think Obama left a mess, just wait.

This was an extraordinarily good book. I enjoyed it from beginning to end and am glad Michelle isn't running for office, ever. She doesn't need that stress.

Black Feminism with no fluff. Loved it and the history of the Combahee River Collective.

I wish Eric Jerome Dickey were still here so I could tweet him and cuss him out for this!!! I was clutching my imaginary pearls from beginning to end. I had a feeling something horrible was going to happen and it surely did but when I wasn't expecting it. I wouldn't have went to the lovers funeral, that was weird to me. Other than that this was a really good listen.

Really great listen. This is one of those books I'd like to revisit in print format because I found myself getting a bit lost when the stories changed. My favorite was the story about the daughters mom banging their married preacher and the daughter going to the preachers house to tutor the son and how weird that was.. Lot's of scandals in the church yet they have the nerve to turn their nose down at people. Ya'll can have that!

POWERFUL. Excited to see what else is in store for Amanda Gorman.
