Cute picture book about two kids and their puppy. Lovely illustrations.
Gut wrenching. Definitely a book I will read to my future kids. This makes me want to read more about Henry "Box" Brown, a slave who mailed himself to freedom. The pictures with him in the box...I just can't imagine. Being taken from his family as a young man and then having his family taken from him. Oh God. We just don't know how well we have it now.
A little boys day of playing in the snow. This brought back fond memories of when I was younger and would have a snow day from school.
Ok, so I watched the show before ever reading the graphic novel and you know what? I think I prefer the graphic novel better. I know they have to draw the drama out in the television show but in the first book of the Walking Dead graphic novel a lot of stuff happens that I had to wait until season 2 to find out. No wonder the people I know who read the graphic novel and watch the show are always so smug. I can't wait to read the second one! I plan on filling the void of the show not being on again until Fall by reading the graphic novels.
A testament to kids reading and their imagination. Lola's parents read her stories at night and the next day she plays pretend based on the books that are being read to her. I'll say this all day, kids should be reading instead of propped up in front of a television all day.
A sweet book about a family with two moms. They adopt an African American, Asian and Caucasian child. I love how this book let it be known that families with two moms or two dads are just like every "regular" family. In the book there was one woman in their neighborhood who just didn't quite understand them and was rude. I would have liked to see her opinion get changed in the book but then again it's real life and no matter how nice you are to people, if you aren't like them they will find a way to hate you. This book is perfect for LGBT families. I love how they are doing "jazz hands" throughout the book. :-)
A lovely book about a little girl taught to love her hair and all the different ways she can wear it. So many little black girls/multicultural are taught early that if their hair is kinky then it's bad. This shows how beautiful kinky hair is. I'd definitely read this to my future daughter.
If I could see and speak to the dead I would be just like Cass McKenna. Exposing the liars for what they are. I enjoyed this book greatly! Loved the characters and it reminded me how small certain things in high school were but at the time it seemed like the end of the world. Another awesome book by Megan Crewe. Girl you better work!
I have to admit I couldn't put this book down even though a lot of it was a HOT MESS! The ending definitely had me wanting more. I hope someone F's Farah and her family up. With Slade's momma stepping up to Farah in the end I wonder will Farah end up killing her too. How is this little chick able to kill everyone? LOL. Also I'm mad that she jumps from one dude to another. I couldn't help but roll my eyes when the book talked of Slade and Farah really feeling each other. They only knew each other for 3 minutes! How was Farah able to keep track of all them damn lies though? If you love drama, cussing, sex and people taking dumps, then this book is definitely for you!
