An exceptionally interesting book that is paced well up until the end. The third act is slow but ironically rushes in the end.
I did, however, spend the whole book trying to figure out what part of the character of Bunny or the story inspired Mona Awad to write her novel. So far I’ve still made no connection between the two Bunnys to make sense of it. Other than the fact that it’s about to poor kids getting caught up in the lives of their rich peers while at an exclusive university.

In 1985, when Ana Mendieta died, they had already formed, but this book doesn’t acknowledge their existence before that nor that they were silent on her death. But they make sure to emphasize their protesting of Carl Andre in 1988

The overt misogyny is difficult to overlook. The main romantic interest is casually sexist from his opening line and Susan Calvin herself expresses a lot of internalized misogyny that is not addressed. The story is meant to take place on 2035 but is held static by the authors inability to write or develop political ideas past 2010. A lot can change over 25 years but Reichert writes like an old white woman
The psychiatry parts are well done but are overshadowed but the lesser parts of the book. And there’s a massive jump scare for transphobia, xenophobia, and Zionism at the end in an attempt to wrap up the third act plot of suicide bombers.

Almost a really good YA if not for the sudden info dump at the end that only serves to set up the second book.

It’s slower than you’d expect but extremely readable. Id suggest this to anyone wanting to get into fantasy because it’s such an easy read.
Sweet Sansa is my favorite. Daenerys is the definition of gaslight gatekeep girlboss.
