A quick read about how the climate crisis is upon us and how it disproportionately affects/hurts the global south and pocs in the global north.

Super fast paced and generally liked it. The twist of who is mainly responsible was a lil surprising but another part was a lil predictable. I didn't LOVE the end/epilogue but I didn't hate it either.
Would've liked a little expansion on Lilliard and whatever his deal was
(like why he was pretty chill with Ms. Keane and why he hated the camp. How much did he know/not know)

Dear America: Notes of an Undocumented Citizen by Jose Antonio Vargas

I find nonfiction very hit or miss for me. My views on undocumented immigrants has changed throughout my life as a child of a documented immigrant. I think if you have a more... conservative view on undocumented immigrants this is a pretty good starting place to open up your views on the topic and see a real person, not just a statistic, living as an undocumented individual.

Good premise but lackluster execution. The design of shy shelbi reminded me of ryuk from deathnote so I liked that but overall it felt too rushed even for a graphic novel. None of the characters were likeable for me so I didn't really care about what could happen to them.

A memoir that was heavier than I expected. Touches on lots of topics so check trigger/content warnings.

I have mixed feelings on this because it did some things well, like touching on being the child of immigrants especially Asian immigrants, and some things not as well. I didn't hate the teen romance overall but think it could've been haven't a little differently/better. I teared up a little bit with everything that happened with Frank and his dad but some of the things seemed a little rushed.
Also didn't hate the end but didn't love it either.
It maybe sort of hints at how Frank and Evon's relationship might shift as they go to college but I wish Frank and Joy was a little better wrapped up and how Frank and Q navigate their relationship as well!

This hit close to home as my heritage has a lot of similarities with Filipino culture and the Philippines as a whole. I related heavily with being an outsider in a culture that is your own but not your own at the same time and trying to navigate what/how/how much you can criticize. When people told Jay he had no right since he doesn't understand and that he's looking at it from a very America lens, it reminded me of things my mom has said to me.
This made me cry.
I loved this book, and I will read more from this author. It is heavy in many ways so def check trigger/content warnings.

Absolutely loved this. Extremely relatable on so many levels.
There are some content/trigger warnings to be aware of but nothing extremely graphic.

Once again, liked this more than I thought I would 😂 it's cheesy and cringey but fun. It's def a junk food type book. Will def continue with the rest of them. My inner child/ teen is having a great time 😂

Definitely a slow read and a very emotionally heavy read. I recommend reading trigger/content warnings and the author did put them at the beginning of the book.
The book encompasses "hurt people hurt people". I teared up a little bit. A good read with a blend of supernatural and heavy topics. It can be difficult to read even though not all the heavy topics were super explicit as it is a YA and can't be as graphic as an standard adult novel.
