The retribution we've all been waiting for. Freedom and safety are not mutually exclusive. 1/4th of a star off because if I have to read the sentence, "I became smoke and ash and wind" one more time...

On my 8th reread of this series, and every time I finish this book like :0 She did all that for some guy

3.75 because it's a very good start to the series, but it def pales in comparison to what comes next

Did not finish book. Stopped at 73%.
Compelling, but in the same way you can’t look away from a car crash. Filled with unlikeable characters and the forced eccentricity detracted from the overall story. Not enjoyable but I can't say I hated it either

Some of the novellas in the middle dragged slightly, but nothing I couldn't skim past on a reread. One of the most heartbreaking novels in a series that I've read, but it's so necessary for plot and character development. All I can say is, good for her

Overall enjoyable. Could have been edited by half. A lot of scenes went on for too long, but didn't necessarily detract, I just got impatient. I appreciated the steadfast nature of Elizabeth, but I think there were moments everything just seemed a little preachy. Went in blind and expected this to be a romance novel, was pleasantly surprised

Same vibes as my high school students that raise their hand and go, "I'm gonna play devil's advocate..."

Entertaining, as per usual from Miss Dare. However the Gramercy long lost family plot line was so uninteresting - Lark and Harry and all of them were just annoying and I could not get through their scenes fast enough lolol, BUT I did enjoy Corporal Thorne

Miss Dare has done it again...I especially liked this one - the plot and sex were equally balanced, which was refreshing. Charlotte and Piers have a well-matched relationship, and the plot kept me engaged bec I never really knew what was going to happen. Took .25 off because Piers' whole "darkness" insecurity was just silly to me, but I can't say I hated it. SO much fun I love Tessa Dare
