The Survivors by Sean Eads

funny sad medium-paced

3.0

I found the idea of of a passive aggressive invasion very interesting, and the whole conception of the aliens, their tactics, and their beliefs felt fresh. I liked that it made sense but it didn't. They are aliens! Craig, the narrator, is what brought down the reading experience. I felt like I was reading a very narrow and performative band of his thoughts. His word choices were weirdly formal. There were attempts at characterization and explaining why he was so attached to Scott, but not enough and overall Craig felt like a stand in for someone rather than a person. But the imagery and ideas were strong enough to carry me through the story.
