Hardboiled & Hard Luck by Banana Yoshimoto

Japanese authors have this distinct style of writing that's so atmospheric and emotional. It's like a blanket that engulfs you. The author tells the stories of two completely different women but both undergoing a journey. The first a paranormal, magical realism kind of story that takes place at a mountain side hotel. And the second an emotional, grief filled story centered around a sister. Both have melancholic and sorrow filled notes. Both strike different chords while the main focus seems to be on death. It was all a little too sad, but the writing as always is something I adore.
