Body horror? Check!

Miserable characters? Check!

Two tropes that always get a book a high rating from me. Body horror freaks me out tbh but it's such good horror. And I loved that the characters always managed to slip back into the realm of realism the moment they started to break into common horror tropes. We see characters start off strong, start off weak, and break down throughout the course of this terrible thing that has happened to them.

This book really held up.
