The Heart of Thomas by Moto Hagio

5.0

Beautiful, compelling, and melancholic in the way so much of this era was. There's something so charming about Moto Hagio's almost avant-garde style, and the constant mystery of why 8th graders are living in college-dorm-esque autonomy.

The book itself is also a lovingly crafted and quite hefty art piece. I wish Fantagraphics had put as much care into the internal production as the package - there were a number of typos and awkward word-bubble placements that could have been avoided.
