I got an ARC of this book.

I will have to admit that I got this book solely because adorable goat boy wanted to read books, but kept eating them is probably the most adorable and most me sort of story there could be. I was expecting a slice of life about being a nerd. Then it got weird.

I was not expected the Chew-esque magic. Yagi can taste what he reads in a special way. He can taste the story and sometimes the feelings/intentions of someone who has written the note. It was interesting, but it felt badly controlled. At first it was just mystery tastes a certain way, but then he could taste that someone was in love? It was a weird thing that didn’t feel developed enough to make it make sense within the world.

The gay sex came out of nowhere. I did ship them, but the whole “you will sleep better if you orgasm” come on was really strange. If that sex scene was more cuddling based and just a “oh, look how cute he is, he fell asleep on me”. It would have had the same impact on the story and the story would have flowed a bit more smoothly when it came to the romance. The second sex scene was pretty wonderful. It fit the story, it fit the couple. I liked it. That first one though was just a bit strange.

Overall, it was a cute manga. It was not the yaoi I grew up with. More the BL that is making the rounds now. I have to say both have their merits and this fits so much better with the more romance based M/M stories.
