I absolutely loved this book. One of the best romance novels I've ever read. It wasn't perfect by any means, but still incredibly lovely. What I really liked was how REAL it felt. It was equal parts messy and depressing, and joyful and romantic. Just like life. As someone who has been in an abusive relationship, I also really related to the abusive situations the author describes. It felt very authentic and relatable and I appreciated that. Women go through these kinds of experiences all of the time, and more attention and importance should be placed on sharing these kinds of stories. This book is important in that way- in the purpose it serves. The one criticism that I could give, is that the main character seems to think the same thoughts over and over and it gets repetitive and fills up a lot of the pages. It kind of seems like she figures something out about her life at one point and then 30 pages later she's figuring it out again. Either way, it wasn't a huge deal for me and didn't detract from the story too much. It was definitely really easy to figure out where the plot was headed, but I loved the comfort of that. I normally donate books when I'm done reading them but I think I'll keep this one so that I can revisit Wakan whenever I need a little pick-me-up. :)
