This book. I. do. not. know. about. this. book.

I read it quite quickly and it would seem to be exactly the kind of thing that I would like. Young smart women. A friendship. In the city. But it never quite felt "right." At some points it felt as if it were a book written in the 1980's or set in the 1980's and then was updated with 2016 details. At other times it felt so melancholy - the two friends really didn't seem to like each other all that much, their friendship didn't resonate as truthful to me. I had this odd sense of foreboding throughout the book, as if someone was going to die or sleep with someone's husband and ruin her life. Spoiler alert: nothing bad happens. But the entire book felt like it was leading up to some form of random tragedy or thoughtless act of betrayal. And yet, there were moments and descriptions that hung with me when I wasn't reading it.
