Flight, Vol. 2 by Kazu Kibuishi

3.0

Like all of the other Flight collections, this one goes off in every possible direction. Some of these tales were pure gold, others felt half finished, and still others made my nose crinkle in disgust. Well worth the read for the guilded bits. A few highlights for me were Craven's "Cellmates," Guenoden's "The Ride" and Chiang's "This Time." Hertzfeldt's "Dance of the Sugar Plums" surprised me; I had expected something more cruelly or disgustingly absurd from him (being familiar with his animations like "Billy's Balloon" and "Rejected"), and this one just felt more sad and poignant in its dislocation. On the other hand, TenNapel's "Solomon Fix" was just awful, and Carneiro's "La Sonadora" seemed so flat and artificially cute it was annoying.
