As Simple As It Seems by Sarah Weeks, Sarah Weeks

3.0

I thought this book had an interesting premise, but felt like it suffered a bit in execution. I feel such empathy for students who have been dealt an undeserved hand due to FAS, but thought the book fumbled a bit once Verbena learned about her true parentage. Her prior feelings of moodiness and meanness seemed sort of contrived, although I do know it's part of adolescence. Pooch was an interesting character, but it felt like they were on the boat forever! All that time for only 15'-25' away. Believe it or not, I thought the dog was one of the best characters, as his actions showed that you don't have to be of sound body to contribute.
