Living Dead in Dallas by Charlaine Harris

"“Wow," I said, since it was all I could think of to say. "Wow. That's some outfit." When you've got a big guy wearing Lycra it doesn't leave a whole lot to the imagination. I resisted the temptation to ask Eric to turn around.
"I don't believe I could be convincing as a queen," Eric said, "but I decided this sent such a mixed signal, almost anything was possible." He fluttered his eyelashes at me. Eric was definitely enjoying this.
"Oh, yes," I said, trying to find somewhere else to look. "
Finally I had the chance to visit the library that had the rest of the books in this series. Yes, silly thing, the library I got book 1 from.. only has book 13 as other book. Thankfully, I had the chance to visit the one library that had all of the books, and I brought 2,3,4,5, and 6 with me. I have been holding out on reading 4 to 6 as I first want to write a review for book 2 and 3.
Since I already wrote two long-ish reviews, this one will have to do with a good/not so good:
Good:
-That we have two plots in this one, not just do we have Sookie go to Dallas and visit a cult/help out the vampires there, but we also have the murder of a co-worker (which made me sad). You would think that they would go together, but I have to say it all ties up nicely and in a tad gore way.
-Seeing Bill and Sookie again. Though I would love to see more love between them. Bill seems a bit oblivious that maybe he should ask Sookie more permissions and he should also get out of his very old thinking on women. But still I love seeing them together, they make quite a couple. I had a laugh when Bill saw what Sookie was wearing underneath her skirts. Oh my!
-Eric, he will also pop up in the not so good section, he is that kind of character. On the one hand I do like him, he is quite interesting and fun. Never gives up. Says things that may not be wise. He always seems like a big guy with a strong attitude, but Sookie can blow him over with just her snark, though I love that he often replies back with just as much snark.
-Going to Dallas. While we don't see much of the city, I still was excited about seeing Sookie (and Bill) travel to the place and all the things they saw.
-The hotel. A special hotel for vampires, though I had a laugh that a human was working there as bellboy. I am guessing more of the staff is also human, but it still seems a bit humorous that people would want to work there if they are human. It is like a sheep that voluntarily walks to a wolf.
-The bellboy and what he is. What a surprise that was!
-There was a ton of excitement, twists and turns in the story. Some had me gasping in shock, others had me on the edge of the seat as I needed to know more.
-We learn a bit more about the vampires and how they tick. I love that we keep finding out more and more about them, I still have questions, so I hope to see them answered as the story continues.
-The cult. While creepy as hell and also unethical, I still love it when stories feature cults and let us see how they work and what is going on in them.
-That one vampire who sought redemption. I can understand that after a life of that you want to seek some form of redemption. He was quite an interesting character.
-We meet new shapeshifters of various forms, and I was delighted to meet them. We already knew there were more supernatural creatures, and we know Sam is a shapeshifter, but the more the better.
-What we learn about Bill. OH my goodness! That must have been a big shock to Bill (and also Sookie). I guess we could have expected something like this, but still I hadn't expected it now. Maybe in a later book, yes.
I probably can put down a few more goods, but I think these are the most important.
What I didn't like:
-The almost rape scene. Yep, WARNING. Sookie almost gets raped in this book, it is only thanks to someone that she is saved. Holy hell. :|
-What Sam did to Sookie. No, just no. Sam please drop it.
-Bill, dude you really need to understand that Sookie is an independent woman. I am sad to see that there is a rift coming between them. Sookie wants Bill, but also be independent and not treated as an item. Bill doesn't understand that. :|
-Eric. Dude, please, your constant flirting with a girl who is taken is just icky. Stop doing that.
All in all, a great book and I had fun reading it. I am definitely happy with the fact I started the series.
