How to Change Your Mind: What the New Science of Psychedelics Teaches Us About Consciousness, Dying, Addiction, Depression, and Transcendence by Michael Pollan

4.5

What a fascinating read!!!!! I don’t know how he did it but Michael Pollan was able to make such a complex topic easily digestible and interesting! It was a perfect mix of memoir, information, statistics & history.

So awesome to learn about the perennial philosophy and counterculture again but through a different context. I’ve obviously known about psychedelics for a while but was taught a lot of what I did know (prior to reading this) from my cults and culture class last year. & also learnt about the perennial philosophy in my enlightened consciousness class (I got really lucky with classes that semester). Learning about the perennial philosophy actually blew my mind, and I can completely see (after reading this) how people change their view on religion or spirituality after going through a trip.

What blows my mind the most is how they literally come from the EARTH. And it has the power and effect to change people’s lives and perspectives more than pharmaceutical drugs
