Vision, Volume 2: Little Better Than a Beast by Tom King

4.0

The blurb printed at the top, center of this trade paperback is "The Vision is the best comic going right now." That quote is from Ta-Nehisi Coates. This bold statement, in the context of its source, tells me two things: 1. That mayyyybe since Coates had just recently entered the world of writing comics (Black Panther), he's comparing and elevating The Vision compared to the other Marvel titles. But even then, he's saying it's better than Ms. Marvel and The Unbeatable Squirrel Girl. 2. If a critical thinker and writer like Ta Nehisi Coates is talking this up with such superlatives, there must be something really important going on here. And there is.

Some of the elements that made the first half of this short, [mostly] self-contained story so perfect unravel a bit in the second act, but by the end, everything is crafted and tied together so well that I can only drop a half-star or so.
