The V-Word: True Stories about First-Time Sex by Amber J. Keyser

4.0

Friends who notice my high ratings to look for great things to read, this book may not necessarily be for you.

This is a book of essays by YA authors about their first sexual experiences. It's written for young women and there are queer stories included (only one trans story in the bunch). At no point was I cringing or worried for teens reading it, which is a good sign. I rated it this high because I work with teens and can picture myself pointing a teen towards this book, but I can also see this book as a wonderful resource for parents of teens. Sometimes parents get so worried that their kids' first experiences will be exactly like their own, and there's such a spectrum of good-bad stories in this collection that I can imagine it getting a parent in the right mindset to talk with their kids.
