Purple Hibiscus by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie
5.0
I went into this book expecting perfection and that is exactly what I got.
Adichie writes so beautifully. As I read her work I find myself in another world, unable to reach back into reality. I carry her characters with me wherever I go, their pain and happiness become my own. The places felt so real, I feel as though I teleported every time I picked up the book.
This is a story about family dynamics, colonisation, religious abuse, adolescence and so much more. Though there are so many issues addressed, she addresses them all with care and nuance.
I loved this book, I can see why it is some people’s favourite book!
