Grief is the Thing with Feathers by Max Porter

4.0

"Grief Is A Thing With Feathers" by Max Porter, is a very unusual book about moving forward from unbearable sadness. A crow comes to stay with a family dealing with the loss of their wife/mother. The crow protects and supports the family during their grief through love and laughter. It took a little to get into the poetic nature of the language and general strangeness though by the end I was pulled into the pain and humor as the family slowly heals. A beautiful little book that hit me right where my own losses lay.

"Once upon a time there was a demon who fed on grief. The delicious aroma of raw shock and unexpected loss came wafting from the doors and windows of a widower's sad home. Therefore the demon set about finding his way in.”
