Like always, Manivannan's writing names the desires that I have not named for myself. She teaches me to find hope in the seeming ordinariness of everyday magic and willpower, with her lists. I learn much about loving and letting go, of loss and longing. Like always, there are women to hold you in the warmth of a watery womb, there are their stories, there are deep lessons - not just in living, but also of flora and fauna, of water phenomena, and of its secret spaces. And her words - they are the lilt and fall of the tide itself, washing over you like waves by the beach.
