The Princes of the Air by John M. Ford

slow-paced
  • Plot- or character-driven? A mix
  • Diverse cast of characters? No

3.5

i really enjoyed the dragon rising, which was my first exposure to john m ford, so i think my expectations were maybe a bit high for the princes of the air? ford is obviously clever as hell, and there's a lot of density to the world; but that made the plot difficult to follow, so i kind of just let it wash over me, which wasn't bad but was still kind of rough. i felt like i only really managed to grasp what was happening in the last third... and, like tdr, i wish tpota had allowed itself more breathing room to develop the world, and set up the ending.

still: i mostly had a good time, and i'm keen to keep picking away at ford's stuff.
