Fat Chance, Charlie Vega by Crystal Maldonado

with everyone around charlie seeming to have an idea as to what she should look like, all charlie wants is to have a better relationship with her body. but charlie can’t help but have mixed feelings about the one person always in her corner, her best friend amelia, especially since charlie’s crushes always seem to like amelia more.

while i’m a bit older than the target audience for this book, i still enjoyed it! honestly, i think the drama made sense, and included some things that i could see happening even with an older cast of characters. i felt so angry towards charlie’s mom, especially knowing that moms who pass their insecurities onto their daughters is a very real thing. the relationship drama made sense within the narrative too, though i don’t want to say too much about it so that i don’t spoil anything.

overall, this was a lovely book, and i look forward to reading more from crystal maldonado in the future.
