I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings by Maya Angelou

5.0

She has such a strong voice.

To have so many recollections of your youth (besides the traumatic parts) seems like such a blessing. For me, there are so many years that I've lost. But she can remember what adults acted like, and how she as a child interpreted it and reacted to the situations that enveloped a young black child in the 30s-40s in the US.

It's interesting and bleak and beautiful. It's stark and innocent.
She has beautiful prose.

The audiobook is read by the author and is great.
