Mariana Capuleta loved her close-knit family. She and her fellow sisters were adopted by Mama and Papo Capuleta after being fostered by them. The Capuleta's ran a community center, Casa Capuleta, which offered their community after school and summer activities and meeting spaces. An unfortunate fire at the center brought money woes for the family. The older Capuleta sisters played in a mariachi band called Las Nubes and planned to play in the upcoming Battle of the Mariachi Bands. The prize money would be enough to pay off the loans their parents had to take out to make the building repairs. As good as they were as a band, it would not be an easy contest. They were the first all female band chosen to complete, and they would be going up against their father's archnemesis, Hugo Montero. Hugo and Papo, once close friends, had a serious falling out and were now enemies. Hugo's band, Los Reyes, was the reigning champion of The Battle. The Capuleta girls promised their parents they would remain professional and steer clear of the Los Reyes members. Mariana was going to find that hard because she recently found out that the mysterious man she met on New Year's Eve (and could not stop thinking about) was Montero's nephew and fellow band member.

Angelo Montero and his younger sister went to live with his uncle, Hugo, after their parents suddenly died. Angelo worked for his uncle's real estate business as a CPA and also played the guitar in the band. Angelo was surprised that the girl he met on New Year's Eve turned out to be a Capuleta. He thought about her often and was hoping to see her again. His uncle's enemies weren't necessarily his enemies as well. Angelo planned to see what happened when the bands met to begin their preparations for The Battle. At the initial meeting of the bands, the feud between the two families arose and caused the sponsor to ask Angelo and Mariana to be the ones to handle their respective family's actions. They would need to work together to make it work, and more time spent together might lead to other things as well.

This was a nice retelling of Romeo and Juliette. I loved Mariana Capuleta and her family. They were all loving and supportive of each other. Angelo was a good MMC. He was caught in a fight that he never fully understood. The secondary characters greatly enriched the story and the flow of the novel was good. This was the first book I had read by Priscilla Oliveras. I liked her writing style and will look for other books by her. I am very glad I chose to read this book.
