Bratz Readathon 2020

Lilly: Michael, SHUT UP!
Boris: (leaning out of the supply closet door) Lilly? Did you say something?
Lilly: I WASN'T TALKING TO YOU, BORIS!
Boris: Sorry. (goes back into closet)”

Okay, but how is this book actually funny and kind of enjoyable??

I grew up watching the Disney adaptation, like most people probably have, but I didn't know there was a book series for the longest time, so naturally when I found out, I immediately decided that I would have to read it at some point. What better time than a readathon? Honestly though I was pretty bored and uninterested in this novel at the beginning, but I knew if I put it down I would never finish it, and somewhere along the way I actually started to like it. What?? I even got to the point where I was really invested in what was happening to Mia, especially with Josh (who I already knew was a tool). And I loved all of the little, and not-so-little, signs that Michael gives to Mia in regards to his feelings for her. He's really sweet, and I'm kinda excited to read book two, if only just to see what developments happen between them. I was also fairly shocked at just how different the movie is from this book, to the point that it feels almost like an in-name-only adaptation, but maybe the film took some inspiration from some of the sequels? Either way, both are good, just in very different ways.
