Northern Overexposure (Villimpi Pohjola) is a collection of comic strips about a group of 20-something university students, their relationships with each other and other people and generally about their lives. They go out to bars, hang out at home, study, work, have sex and fight. Basically they do everything that's included in a normal life. There are lot of characters, but they all have their own characteristics (both physical and personality) and ways of reacting to different situations.
This was an enjoyable comic from start to finish and probably not least because I could really recognize these characters. I mean, I'm 20-something, I recently graduated from uni and do hang out with a lot of 20-something uni students or recent graduates. In many ways this comic is telling short stories about the world I'm living right now or from the world I've just left behind. And it's fun to sometimes just stay where you are when you are reading something.
Besides that, Villimpi Pohjola had both fun story lines and nice, clear drawing style. Among the Finnish comic artists whose work I've explored, JP Ahonen has one of my favorite styles of drawing. Not too nitpicky but neither in any way messy or too cluttered.
I'd recommend this to 20-something students, both those who are mass consuming comics as well as those who may not be enthusiast. I'll bet both could find something familiar from this book.
