Ballad of the Desert by Tong Hua

adventurous emotional medium-paced

4.5

Though I read this way long ago before writing this, I still remember enjoying this and feeling lots of emotions from the story.

From what the summary of this novel triggered in my memory, I loved Jin Yu and Huo Qu Bing. But also, the regret and angst for Meng Jiu, ugh you really feel the “what could’ve been” hard at the end. This entire story really felt like an epic and having read so many translated novels now it’s really thanks to the good translations for not losing that quality. I recall loving the world building and really having a good image of where the story is which painted the story beautifully in my mind. If I had the time this is one of the few novels I’d reread.
