At the Earth's Core by Edgar Rice Burroughs, Science Fiction, Literary by Edgar Rice Burroughs

4.0

While at first it seems derivative of Jules Verne's 'Journey to the Centre of the Earth', Rice Burroughs' first Pellucidar novel delivers a faster paced adventure.
There's no journey to the centre here, rather the reader is thrust into the core from the get go. What is sacrificed in build up is made up for with more room to explore the theme of the passage and perception of time.
Where Verne offers a glimpse beneath the surface, Burroughs boasts a guided tour and, ultimately, a more enjoyable read.
