B.P.R.D.: The Devil You Know, Vol. 1: Messiah by Mike Mignola, Dave Stewart, Scott Allie, Laurence Campbell

2.0

This was such a disappointing start. I feel so underwhelmed with how this finale is turning out and I had really high hopes just coming down from Hell On Earth. With Messiah, the pacing is odd, the writing felt disjointed with the stilted dialogue. I had to keep going back a couple pages to re-read to make sure I didn't miss something. Turns out, didn't miss anything, just a strange choice in writing style. Another issue for me was the characters, they felt, well, out of character.
I have no real issue with the Howards and Liz relationship, it just felt random and out of character for them.
Devon is more insufferable than ever before, I didn't think that was possible to be honest. The art is...interesting. I got a lot of the side characters confused, not only with the questionable art choice but with the messy dialogue as well. The only things I liked in Messiah were Abe coming back, FINALLY! and that last panel. I had to talk myself down from giving this a higher rating just for the last page cliffhanger alone.
