This was fine. Not great but not terrible. I did not like what was done to Shane in this book nor did I like how Claire reacted to things.
Bishop is back (escaped from prison) and is using an underground fight club to raise money so he can kill his daughter, and take over. Of course he is not the face of the project, that's Vassily and Gloriana. She is using mind control on humans to get them to do her bidding. And Vassily is giving them "protein" drinks, which are enhanced with vampire blood so they can be stronger and fight longer. Shane is obsessed with the fight club and while he realizes that he's being manipulated by Glory he doesn't care because he gets to fight. And, all of his jealousies and insecurities are coming out. Claire gets the Founder to let her talk to one of the prisoners to gry to help them with tracing the website for the fight club but she turns on them and escapes in the confusion. Claire, Eve, and Myrnin have to stop fight club on their own, before Oliver goes scorched earth. They save Shane. Kill Bishop. Then, the tech girl shows up at Myrnin's lab and tries to kill Claire so she could be with Shane, but that doesn't work out. Shane finds out that his dad is now the brain running the vampire boundaries. He and Claire make up. She turns down MIT. Oh, and Eve and Michael are engaged; she is elated, he is not.
Lots happened in this book, so it wasn't like it was filler. But it also wasn't great and lots of things irritated me.
