We Are Never Meeting in Real Life. by Samantha Irby

funny inspiring fast-paced

5.0

This book was recommended to me through Libby and it sounded funny, so I borrowed it and ended up absolutely loving it. I had never heard of Samantha Irby and knew nothing about her going into it, but it turned out we have a lot in common.

Like me, she gets to get to deal with the fun of Crohn's disease. And by "fun" I mean FUn--as in, putting the FU in fun. Because this disease sucks and there is no way around that. But it does help to laugh about it, because otherwise what is there to do? Her jokes about her illness were fantastic and completely relatable to me.

The book is a series of essays about her life and the things she deals with, such as getting a cat from hell that she names Helen Keller, and her relationship and later marriage to her partner Mavis. She also talks about her previous dating experiences and other various life experiences and every story is done in a way that had me laughing out loud constantly. I'm not a person who tends to laugh out loud while reading very often, so this book definitely ranked up there for me. I'm sure her humor and this style of book would not be for everyone, but it definitely clicked with me and I'm going to read her other books when I get a chance.
