Sister Outsider: Essays and Speeches by Audre Lorde

3.0

It is sad to realize that someone has to grow up in our country dealing with so much hate for simply being who they are. Another reminder that we need to love each other for the unique being with unique gifts that each of us are. That we have made the command, from God, to love each other have so many conditions is crazy and sad. the tone of skin, the economic level, the preference to get strength and support from only specific persons........oh my. Audre Lorde had so many "things" that the culture deemed wrong it is no wonder that she had so much anger and fear. I am grateful for her voice. Oh for us all to strive for acceptance. I will need to read this a second and a third to maybe even begin to discover all of the wisdom in this book. Thoughts on patriarchy, feminism, Black women, Black men, white privilege, economic disparity, racism, lesbians and so many other place where we choose to rank and divide.
